Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today threw a challenge to all Umno divisions to come up with an extraordinary idea in efforts to ensure that the party’s struggles continue to be relevant and accepted by the people in the country.
Showing his seriousness about the challenge, he offered a RM10,000 cash prize to the division that succeeded in giving an idea with the “wow factor”.
“Every division must set up a special committee to think in a serious manner ideas that had the ‘wow factor’.
“The committee will be set up at the Supreme Council level to evaluate the ideas whether it had the factor and could be implemented,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after opening the Delegates Meeting of the Kota Tinggi Umno division.
Muhyiddin said this matter was crucial as the people had high expectation from the party and government.
Asked why the idea is needed now, Muhyiddin, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said the government had done a lot, such as implementing economic development and so on, but they did not appear to have significant value to the people.
“They recognise but these were seen as normal things,” he said.
Acknowledging that there were problems and certain issues faced just like in other countries, he said that “at least the government could still create a country that is stable, harmonious, and with economic growth and job opportunities.”
However, he said, these things seemed to be overshadowed by other things that cropped up in the country.
Present at the meeting were division head, Datuk Daeng Malek Daeng A Rahman and Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. – Bernama
