‘Soju‘ a distilled vodka-like, rice liquor been consumed by Korean for thousand of years.
It is pretty potent liquor with high alcohol content and a favorite drink among South Korean who are well-known for their drinking culture.
They are believed to drink twice as much as the Russians and five times more than Brits! Well, some South Korean believed their addiction to alcohol are partly perpetuated by their distillers and their Government!
“We have become alcoholics because they failed to warn the dangers of alcohol,” said a group of 26 South Korean who sued two of country largest distillers, reports The Korea Observer
The Korea Observer said the 26 plaintiffs seeking damages amounting to 2.1 billion won (or RM6.49 million) in a suit filed at the Seoul Central District Court against soju-distillers Hite Jinro and Muhak.
The group also named several government agencies, National Health Insurance Service and Korea Alcohol & Liquor Industry Association in the suit for mandating health-warning labels that are “too small to read.”
The complainants also reportedly demanded that the government launch a public awareness campaign to raise awareness about alcohol addiction.
