He is known for “Pengingat Tuai” a popular Iban-language radio show decades ago, before the age of Internet, mobile phone.

Thomas Tegong Laka recently retired from his broadcasting job with Radio Malaysia Sarawak and since actively speaking up on Dayak culture and other issues.

The well-known Iban radio announcer has been proposed by DAP for a Senatorship position in the coming DUN sitting starting November 10.

“I call on the BN to support the nomination as Sarawak need a senator who can speak up for Sarawakian, especially the Dayak in the Senate,” DAP Sarawak chief Chong Chieng Jen said in a statement.

Previously such position are often reserved for defeated Barisan Nasional candidates in an election.

However DAP said it is time for BN to “get someone close to the people as a Senator,” instead of rejected leaders.
