Malaysia ‘flawed democracy’ ranked behind Indonesia, Philippines

Malaysia is a flawed democracy ranked 65 out of 167 countries in the Economic Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) index.

The index measures the state of democracy around the world.

Malaysia’s democracy is behind that of neighboring countries such as Indonesia at 49th and the Philippines 53rd spot.

Ours slightly better than Singapore at 75.

Malaysia overall score a 6.49 point out of 10 in 2014. Malaysia scored 6.41 in 2012.

Critics says the regularly held elections are not fair, manipulated in term of voters’ electoral rolls and boundaries.

Topping the Democracy index is Norway followed by Sweden, Iceland, New Zealand and Denmark.
