After the completion of 1.48km Batang Sadong bridge, currently, the longest bridge in Sarawak, now the talk is about when the proposed Batang Lupar Bridge will be constructed?

Prime Minister Najib Razak announced the construction of the proposed bridge earlier this year at a cost of approximately RM800 million.

Batang Lupar will be the longest bridge in Sarawak with total length of five kilometres.

The Batang Lupar Bridge is situated along the Sarawak Coastal Road linking the coastal towns from Kuching/Samarahan divisions to Triso, Betong Division and thereafter all the way to Miri.

It is the second trunk road in Sarawak and shortening the journey for example between Kuching and Pusa by less than 100 kilometres as compared to 240 kilometres on the old trunk road.

There are seven long bridges to be constructed across several rivers – Rambungan, Batang Saribas, Krian near Pusa, Batang Paloh, Muara Lassa, Batang Igan and Batang Tatau.

Currently, all these river crossings are served by ferry services. And here are photos of Batang Lupar and Batang Saribas ferry crossings.
