Having tasted poverty himself Mr 10sen empathize with those who are sick, hungry and poor.
He when around hospitals to help lighten the burden of those in needs, not for recognition or to be glorified.
His act of kindness didn’t go unnoticed, particularly so our increasingly connected, socialized world.
Photos of Mr 10sen or his real name Mr Kuan Chee Heng delivering groceries, packed foods to the needy hospitalized at various hospitals in Puchong and Kuala Lumpur – quickly go viral. He charges a mere 10sen (US $0.02) for the service.
He often carries a banner that reads – “susah, lapar, sakit” or “sick, hungry, poor” wherever he goes so that people know.
We were intrigued by what Mr. Kuan did. So we text him some personal questions via Whatsapp, expecting nothing.
To our surprised, Mr Kuan quickly replied “I was a poor man too. Been sick and hungry when myself while I was young,”.
According to Mr. Kuan, he was born to a poor family. They lived in poverty in Johor. Her mother was a rubber tapper.
Escaping the poverty, in hope of a greener pasture elsewhere, he moved to Kuala Lumpur and had resided in Puchong in the last three decades.
Now, he no longer struggling with poverty. “I’m slightly better off compare to decades ago,” Mr. Kuan said and he wishes to make a different in someone’s else life while still breathing.
“One day, when I no longer has the capacity to help others, even if I wish to, there is nothing I could do,” he said.
Apart from delivering foodstuffs to the needy at hospitals for 10sen, Mr. Kuan also offers ambulance and taxi services to them – you bet it, also for for 10sen.
