A 7-door longhouse and 1 unit single house at Long Seridan were gutted by an evening fire yesterday.
Long Seridan is located near Mulu National Park, in Ulu Baram reachable via logging road – a trip that takes at least 9 hours from Miri.
According to the General Department of Fire and Rescue 6 Miri, Senior Superintendent of Fire 1, Law Poh Kiong fire that occurred around 5.15pm.
Law told local media, the department is seeking help from the air unit of Miri Fire and Rescue Department to get to the victims in Long Seridan.
The official Malaysia broadcaster RTM estimated some 70 peoples were made homeless in the fire.
Long Seridan, a Kelabit settlement in Marudi district has a small airstrip and also accessible by road via logging road approximately 400km from Miri.
