SMOKERS beware! The Ministry of Health has been issuing a directive to Health Department nationwide to tighten the enforcement of non-smoking zone with “Saman terus” or on-the-spot fine starting June 1- on the eve of Gawai Dayak.
Deputy Director General of Health (Public Health) Datuk Dr. Lokman Hakim Sulaiman said the move followed the proclamation of amendments to Regulation 11 (w), Regulations of Tobacco Control (PPKHT) Amendment Regulations 2017 on 1 February.
“Before 1 June, we take an approach to create awareness by educating the public through the distribution of leaflets related offenses and only issued a warning.
“However, after June 1, enforcement will continue to issue a notice of offense as a violation of Rule 11 (d) with a minimum fine imposed RM250,” he said on February 26, 2017.
In Bintulu, local Health Department has been regularly reminding and warning public Tanjung Batu beach is a non-smoking zone.
As part of the efforts to create more awareness, signages have been erected at strategic spots on the beach – as a reminder to the public.
