MIRI – A Form Two student of SMK Merbau here was killed after being hit by a car while crossing the road near the traffic lights Insitute Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKBN) at 12:12 noon.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Stanley Ringgit Johnathan said Leonard Standly, 14, who lives in Bandar Baru Permyjaya was walking home from school before the incident occurred.

“According to witnesses, the victim and two friends were walking and when two of his friends crossed the street, Leonard followed but was hit by a Nissan bearing Brunei registration number,” he said here today.

Stanley said the driver was a man from Brunei, brakes his car but failed to avoid the victim, causing the victim died at the scene.

“It’s already taken evidence on the incident and did not hold up,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) (A) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – BERNAMA
