Foods Not Allowed To Be Sold at School Canteens

Do you know that most of the processed foods you regularly allowed your kids to consume are not allowed in school – nationwide.

Ministry of Education based on recommendation by Ministry of Health had issued a guideline on “Healthy School Canteen” which every schools canteen operators nationwide must follow.

“Occasionally try to look at the school canteen to see food being sold to our children,” said Azimah Zainal, a Nutritionist at Ministry of Education.

It is part of a fight against obesity in school.

According to a study published in the Malaysian Journal of Public Health Medicine 2015 (pdf), obesity is prevalence among Year 1 was lowest compared to children in Year 6 and Form 3.

“This may be due to the behavior pattern of children at the age of 12 years old,”

“This period signified their maturity and independence, thus choosing what they want and spend their pocket money on unhealthy food.

Apart from food – the study found that children addicted to playing with video games, gadget – lead to sedentary lifestyle is predispose to obesity.
