SMK Kidurong one of the 402 schools with drugs, disciplinary issues in Malaysia

SMK Kidurong, Bintulu established in 1997.

SMK Kidurong made it to the dubious list of 402 Malaysian schools with disciplinary, drugs issues as identified by the Education Ministry.

The school which officially opened on Jan. 1, 1997 is the only school from Bintulu on the list, that also happened to be the only in Sarawak in the Category 3 – having both disciplinary and drugs issues.

A total of 10 Sarawak’s schools made it to list:

1. SMK Demak Baru, Kuching
2. SMK Matang 2, Padawan
3. SMK Lake, Bau
4. SMK Sri Aman
5. SMK Pujut, Miri
6. SMK Telang Usan, Baram
7. SMK Lawas
8. SMK Gedong, Simunjan
9. SMK Sungai Tapang, Samarahan
10. SMK Kidurong, Bintulu.

Selangor topped the list with 76 schools, followed by Negri Sembilan 40, Penang and Pahang on the fourth spot with 37 schools each.

But worst is Kuala Lumpur’s schools. All 22 schools in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur having drug issues.

Bottom of the list is Putrajaya with two schools while none of Sabah’s schools were on the list.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid told Bernama last night that they would apply the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) approach to address problems at the hotspot schools.

He said the hotspot schools were those that had been identified with problems on discipline, drug abuse, and crime, as well as high absenteeism rates.

Mahdzir said a committee had been set up at the ministry level for the purpose and efforts to address the problems would be carried out with the cooperation of the police, parent-teacher associations, non-governmental organizations and the alumni of the schools concerned.
