In the Bukit Selambau state by-election, the Barisan Nasional (BN) will have greater focus on ‘hotspots’ through a strategy of reaching out to voters via a concerted BN component parties effort.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammudin Tun Hussein said he will ensure that each BN component party worked together as these areas had many young voters.

To ensure there were no untoward incidents in these areas, Hishammuddin said he had reached an understanding with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president, Azmin Ali, that there be no provocation throughout the campaigning period.

“BN will use its youth machinery to campaign in the hotspots especially in housing areas with many voters, especially many young voters,” he told reporters after visiting the Puteri Umno operations room here, Sunday.

Hishammuddin said he would camp here beginning tomorrow night to oversee the BN election machinery’s smooth functioning till polling day on April 7.

Hishamuddin, who is also Education Minister, said Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin would head the movement’s campaign in Bukit Selambau.

He said BN was expected to have a tough going but he was confident that the wild and unsubstantiated accusations that would be hurled by the opposition would not influence voters.

“Many of the promises of Pas which helms the Kedah state government have not been honoured and this is why the DAP-PKR-PAS pact should be rejected,” he said.
