The government is considering better incentives to attract more foreign investors to the country, said the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department,Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop here today.

He said the new incentives are needed as the quest for foreign investment will become more competitive, following the view that the global economy will start recovering within this year.

Speaking at a media conference after his working visit to Bintulu Port here, he also said that the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA), will become a mediating agency for discussions with foreign investors interested in starting operations in Malaysia.

He said the readiness of foreign investors in wanting to invest capital in Malaysia will be a positive indicator of the country’s improving economy after the global slump of the past year.

Nor Mohamed said the positive changes have been visibly evident over the past two months and is expected to get better, following the steps taken by the government to overcome the global economic crisis.

He said the implementation of projects under the economic stimulus package announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last year, are among the key factors to have helped in the economic growth at present in the country. BERNAMA
