The Umno Youth welcomes the invitation of PAS Youth for a discourse on current issues.

Umno Youth head Khairy Jamaluddin said the initiative was seen as a new and major development as previous efforts to hold discussions between PAS and Umno at the federal level were often disrupted by other opposition parties.

“I see that PAS Youth is bold enough to make its own move and the invitation is in sync with Umno Youth’s objective of forging cooperative ties between PAS and Umno,” he told a news conference at the Parliament lobby here Wednesday.

Khairy said both parties had also decided to form a secretariat to further discuss the mechanism for the discourse, such as suitable format, venue and topics of discussion.

Khairy, who is also the Rembau Member of the Parliament, suggested that the secretariat meet after the Manik Urai by-election in Kelantan on July 14.

“We want to see the honesty and sincerity of both parties in the matter. If we find no personal attacks in the by-election ceramah (talks), we can proceed with the discourse,” he said.
