State of the art Borneo Convention Center Kuching expected to be open for business by early October 2009 aims to tap the lucrative meetings, incentive, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) sector.

State Urban Development and Tourism Minister Datuk Michael Manyin said the RM200 million centre would boost Sarawak as the destination for MICE and help bring in more tourists to the state.

“Now, many countries are competing to promote MICE tourism to attract high-end tourists to get bigger share of revenue in the industry.

“However, I believe Sarawak can do it well when BCCK starts operating. The MICE sector will be the revenue generating industry in the state,” he told reporters after inspecting the 95 percent-completed BCCK here Thursday.

Located in Kuching Isthmus, about 5km from the city centre, BCCK is the first purpose-built convention centre in Borneo and can accommodate up to 9,000 people in its four halls and 14 meeting rooms.
