Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim - Minister of Information, Communication and Culture.
The Information, Communications and Heritage Minister acted in a very rude and sarcastic manner to a reporter from national daily – The Star – an English language newspaper.
It is common, in fact expect that a reporter from an English daily to ask questions in English language during press conference in this country. Listen to their exchanges below:
Reporter: Is it true that the government is…Rais then asked the reporter…
RY: “Anda dari akhbar mana?”
Reporter: The Star – the reporter replied.
RY: “Cakaplah bahasa kebangsaan sikit,” the sarcastically said “Merdeka”
That innocent reporter continue with his question. Apparently irked by his persistent speaking in English Rais Yatim said…
RY: “saya tak jawablah soalan begitu. Tanye ajalah dalam bahasa kebangsaan, ape die. OK if you want to talk in English, I’ve changed my mode… go ahead”
The star reporter heard saying “if we’re not speak… and Rais Yatim sarcastically asked the reporter where were he educated.
RY: “Where were you educated, you can’t speak bahasa at all” he said while sarcastically laughing at the poor reporter.
“Hehee cakap Orang Putih” – he then said “give the others the chance, as he had asked a question. Rais then told the other reporters to pose their questions.
If this were in the US – the video would be re-played over and over by cable networks – and would haunt Rais whenever election campaign comes.

LOL??? What’s wrong with speaking English? I thought we are a multi-cultured country? Oh well, perhaps the culture minister, ironically, is not “multi-cultured” enough.
What do you expect from someone who disown his own dissertation on the evil of ISA? Ethical and decorum??? Not bloody likely from the likes of a political trollop. And ironically he, a political courtesan is Malaysia’s Information, Communication and Heritage Minister (the heritage of a streetwalker is more like it).. Speaks volume about the Malaysian Government, doesn’t it?
What happened to the famous Malay courtesy? I take it that Mr Rais Yatim elevation to the August office of Information,Communication and Heritage Ministry precludes him for behaving to suit his rank.
I take it that when he speaks to foreign dignitary he will be asking them which school or university that they went to. I cant even call him Kampung boy as that will be demeaning to us Kampung people not even orang Asli as they also have their own manners. Hummmmm.
